Buying Guide

Channels, service differences, common pitfalls

Not all Ledger listings are equal. This buying guide walks through channel types (authorized reseller vs marketplaces vs secondhand), what service differences to expect, and the pitfalls — counterfeits, reflashed units, missing seals — that cost new buyers.

What to Watch For When Buying Ledger in China | Neutral Checklist of Pitfalls

When buying a Ledger hardware wallet in mainland China, regardless of the channel, you should run through a basic check when the package arrives. This is not about distrusting the seller — it is giving your own assets an extra layer of protection. Even for official channels, there is a remote chance of replacement somewhere in the logistics chain.

The checklist below applies to all channels. There aren't many items, but each one is closely tied to downstream security.

Check the Packaging First

  • Does the outer packaging show obvious crush marks or signs of being opened; are the seals / security tapes intact, and do the color and wording match the official design.

  • Are the accessories complete: cable, quick-start card, recovery-phrase card, certificate of authenticity, etc.

Confirm at First Power-On

  • Unactivated state: a genuine Ledger should be in factory-default state at first power-on — you should set your own PIN and generate your own recovery phrase. If the device prompts "already paired" or "please enter the recovery phrase we sent you," stop using it immediately and contact official support.

  • Blank recovery-phrase card: the included recovery-phrase card should be completely blank; any card that already has a recovery phrase printed or written on it must not be used.

Run a Genuine Check

Ledger Live has a built-in Genuine Check function that can verify online whether the device is using an original-factory chip. We recommend running it once for every new device; the operation is very quick and can be done the first time you connect in Ledger Live. If the check fails, do not continue initializing an account — first contact the seller and official support.

Clarify the After-Sales Path in Advance

  • Who honors the warranty: for an authorized reseller, can the original-factory warranty be used; for a personal shopper, after-sales is usually only borne by the shopper themselves, and the original factory may not accept the claim.

  • Return-and-exchange boundaries: hardware wallets are a security product; most channels do not accept 7-day no-reason returns after the package has been opened and activated. Read the terms before ordering.

Signals to Watch For

If any of the following occurs, pause and verify the channel's identity: the device has an account already bound at first boot; the recovery phrase has already been written out; packaging seals have clearly been re-applied; the price is far below market; the seller refuses to provide company information or an invoice. Digibit will continuously compile such signals into our Chinese pages, but the final judgment is yours to make.

How to Read Ledger Model Price Ranges | Budget Reference for Different Scenarios

Looking at Ledger hardware wallet prices, you cannot simply rely on the "USD price on the official site" because final delivered prices in mainland China are also affected by exchange rates, shipping, customs clearance and channel markup. A product being "a few dozen yuan cheaper" may mean the channel is absorbing shipping costs, or it may mean the seller is squeezing the original warranty — the two are completely different in nature.

Below we list observation angles on price ranges by model; the exact numbers should follow the current official Ledger site or the pricing of a proper channel at the time of purchase — no commitments made here.

Official Price Ranges (USD Reference)

  • Nano S Plus: entry-level, the lowest price — a good fit for budget-conscious users focused on long-term holding.

  • Nano X: supports Bluetooth — suitable for users who need mobile-side usage; priced in the mid-range.

  • Nano Gen5: the newest generation of the Nano series, with a moderate upgrade over the Nano X; priced slightly higher.

  • Flex: a mid-tier touchscreen model, priced one tier above the Nano Gen5.

  • Stax: currently Ledger's top-tier touchscreen model, with the highest price — targeted at users who demand a premium experience.

What Affects the Delivered Price

  • Exchange rate: the USD price on the official site is converted to RMB at the current rate — volatility is moderate but still has impact.

  • Shipping and customs: ordering from an overseas official site to mainland China incurs shipping and customs duties; some channels show estimated amounts directly on the page.

  • Channel markup: domestic channels need to cover warehousing, marketing and after-sales costs, so prices are usually slightly higher than direct from the official site.

  • Promotions and bundles: there are short-term promotions during Double 11, Black Friday, etc., and there may also be "device + accessory" bundle discounts.

Be Cautious When Prices Look Unusually Low

If a given model is priced clearly below the official site at some channel, and that seller refuses to produce their business identity, first rule out the following risks: second-hand refurbished re-packaging, unauthorized secondary reselling, "free gift" style bundle items, and even counterfeit products. Low price itself is not the issue — low price without verifiable seller identity and after-sales path is.

How to Pick a More Reliable Channel to Buy Ledger | Common Differences Across Channels

There is more than one channel to buy a Ledger hardware wallet: ordering from the official site is the most hassle-free, but overseas shipping comes with customs costs; local resellers are convenient, but require some extra verification; personal shoppers and second-hand channels may look cheaper, but the potential risks are higher too. Different buyer profiles fit different channels.

This page does not promote any specific seller. It just helps you form an overall judgment before ordering, from three angles: "can you verify the seller's identity, can you verify authenticity, which after-sales path do you go through."

Common Differences Across Main Channels

  • Ledger official store: identity is the clearest, supports mainstream payments and international shipping — a good fit for users who prefer the "original channel, original after-sales" path; downsides are regional pricing and customs timing fluctuations.

  • Authorized resellers: the list can be verified on the Ledger official site — a good fit for users who want to pay locally and receive locally; before ordering, verify the reseller's credentials to avoid confusion with "self-claimed authorized" sellers.

  • Large e-commerce platforms: highly convenient, but store identities vary widely; when the price is unusually low or the packaging looks inconsistent, be extra cautious.

  • Personal shoppers / second-hand: prices can be lower, but the activation state of the device, whether the packaging has been opened, and whether original-factory after-sales is available are all unknowns.

At Least Verify Three Things Before Ordering

  • Seller identity: can the company name, business address and contact details be officially verified; sellers who claim to be "official" but cannot produce verifiable information require caution.

  • Authenticity verification path: does delivery allow a Ledger Live Genuine Check afterwards, are the seals intact, is the packaging consistent.

  • After-sales path: who honors the warranty (Ledger officially vs. the reseller); does the seller accept returns and exchanges; for firmware or hardware failures, can the case be handled through the original-factory process.
